D's, Due, and Do

D’s Due and Do

For lacrosse we have to use the D’s Due and Do technique every week. Each Sunday we sit down with a mentor and fill out a big sheet of our weekly schedule. We write down when our assignments are due and write down what days we are going to do the work. Last week I had big Religion 244 essay that was due on Saturday night by midnight. I made sure to leave time to correct and edit my paper for Friday during the day. I did the reading on Monday so I had a better understanding on what to write my paper on and so I didn’t have to waste anytime when I met with my tutor on Tuesday. I broke it up during the week and met with my tutor on Tuesday and did two pages of it. I met with my tutor again on Thursday and did two more pages of it, which completed it. This left me time on Friday and Saturday to re-read my essay and make the changes that I needed for the final draft.

It also helped me with my history essay that was due last Thursday. It was an autobiography about my life and how I ended up here at Syracuse. It only had to be two pages so I broke it up and wrote a page on Monday and page on Tuesday and edited it on Tuesday night. I also had to read 4 chapters that week in history so I broke them and read a chapter a day up until my recitation on Thursday, where we discuss what we read.

I’ve been using this technique since the beginning of school and has really helped my time management and I have been doing more efficient work much easier and less stressful to break it up instead of waiting till the night before which I used to do the past few years.

Chris Daddio's Fritter Finder

For this weeks tech assignment I choose to use my fritter finder strategy. The main reason I chose to do this one is because I have had the most success using this strategy. As for the other strategies I have attempted all of them I just haven't gotten a good enough feel yet for them. I feel that the fritter finder was the easiest for me because all i had to do was take my schedule and write it out then look at all of the free time that I have and establish when and how I am going to use it to finish all of my assignments that are due and when during the week they are due. It was also a big help when I came in for my friday meeting that my TA Janine helped me better understand what I really needed to do to help accomplish my weekly assignments in enough time so that I can study what I have done and have extra time to work out and practice extra for lacrosse.

Matt Harris First Blog

The strategy I chose was the D's Do's and Due's. I chose this because I thought it would help me the most in managing my time. I chose to do a D's Do's and Due's for 3 classes. The first was My PSY 322 class, I also did it for my EAR 117 class and CLS 105. For my PSY 322 class its helped me get my study guide done on time and know when my readings are due. For my EAR 117 class I have a test this week and its helped me plan out when and how much I should study each day leading up to the test. But this strategy has helped me most with CLS the most. There's a lot to do in this class and it helps me keep all my stuff together and it makes sure I get my stuff in on time. As I was saying before I chose this strategy because it lays out a schedule. I have a hard time keeping to a solid schedule sometimes and this strategy gives me a plan that I know will be there and that I can change monthly. I had to make some adaptations because I don't have the actually "Cuse" planner. I have the student-athlete handbook. The layout was a little different so mine looks a little different. This strategy has been effective so far. I like it because I can make sure I get all of my work done and cross it off when I'm finished. I like all of the other strategies, but for me this one works the best.

fritter finder

For me time management is a huge issue. When I have my time planned out I am a far more successful student, when I do not have my time laid out I am stressed out and un organized. The time management strategy that I chose to use was the fritter finder. I know that I have practice and rehab everyday so using the schedule to know where my free time is available is really helpful for me. For me I have a lot more homework in some courses than others an my wednesdays and thursdays are very packed. every thursday I have a chemistry lab that I need to have read and be prepared for a quiz on it. since my wednesdays are very packed the fritter finder showed me that I need to use my free time on tuesday in order to read it because if I leave it until wednesday I will be rushed and not do it as well as I could. The fritter finder helped me in chemistry especially because as you can see in my picture my tuesdays are very empty and I need to take advantage of that time.
When looking at my fritter finder I also realized that with my night class taking up a large portion of my wednesday night I need to plan ahead and get my earth science homework done for my recitation. Lots of my days are completely full and others are not very busy, so instead of being lazy and not doing anything on my days off I need to do work and get some of my work load off for wednesdays and thursdays.

D's, DO, Due Strategy

The strategy I chose to do was D's, Due, Do. I used that strategy for my SOC 248 and PHI 107 class. I chose to use this strategy because sometime I can be an procrastinator and using this strategy it laid out what I need to do for my assignments, when I needed to start my assignments, and when it was due. I had to adapt using this strategy because it help me get used to spacing out a time frame of when to do it and finishing my assignments early.

After applying this strategy to my planner for my homework, I think it was a big success for me to accomplish my work. This strategy is helping me break a bad habit of waiting until the last minute to complete my assignments.
